Would you Rather Book Tag

Hi everyone! I was planning to write a book review today, but I have yet to finish We Thought we Knew You or The Invisible Life of Addie Larue because I simply have not had time. So, I’m going to do a book tag!

As the title suggests, this is called the Would You Rather Book Tag, and I found it over on Sofii’s blog @ABookAThought. I’ll be answering her questions today, and then I’ll try to come up with some questions of my own.

Would you rather just be able to read your favorite book forever or read varied but only your least favorite genre?

Honestly, I can’t pick my favorite book. Usually my favorite book is whatever book I read most recently, so I’d have to go with reading only in my least favorite genre. My least favorite genre would probably be romance or YA, and I’ve found good books in both of those genres that I actually enjoyed. I don’t believe in “bad genres,” just bad books.

Would you rather be inside your favorite book or have your favorite characters be in the real world?

Most of my favorite books exist in pretty dangerous worlds, so I’d have to say that I’d rather my favorite characters come visit me–partially because it would be hilarious to see any fantasy character’s reaction to modern America.

Would you rather always read happy endings or always open endings?

Neither! I know I can’t say that, but I hate reading books that seem to end the same way. I guess I’d prefer an open ending since that usually means a sequel is coming, and I do enjoy a good sequel.

Would you rather have a plot twist where your favorite character dies or have no plot twist at all?

NO PLOT TWIST AT ALL! Seriously, too many of my favorite characters have died, and even though some of their deaths gave their story a deeper meaning (i.e. Javert’s inability to accept the gift of grace) I still did not like losing that character. Also, I hate books in which the author kills off a character simply for the sake of a plot twist or to build drama (I’m looking at you, Nicholas Sparks).

Would you rather be able to read only the first page of the books or be able to read only the last?

I’d probably prefer to read the first page. I could at least imagine the ending myself. If I read the last page I might not get enough information for inspiration.

Would you rather always have unpopular opinions about the books you read or think like most readers?

I do NOT want to think like most readers. It’s not just that I’d prefer to be unique, it’s because I legitimately enjoy talking to people who have different opinions than me. It helps me open my mind and reminds me that my opinions are not the “be all, end all” of the universe.

Would you rather be in a fantasy world with normal people or in the real world with fantasy characters?

Ooooooo! This one is tricky. I’ve already said that I think it would be hilarious to see a fantasy character in the modern world, but I also think it would be fun to travel to a fantasy would with one of my classes just to see any of the teenagers I teach in a world WITHOUT CELL PHONE SERVICE. They would need some kind of time limit though, because not a single one of them would survive more than an hour (okay, I have two that might survive a week or more).

My questions:

  • Would you rather read a book where the final page was missing or a book where the author doesn’t know the difference between there, their, and they’re?
  • Would you rather have dinner with your favorite author or your favorite character?
  • Would you rather read by the fireplace in the winter or on the beach in the summer?
  • Would you rather read the last chapter in a book first or watch the movie before reading the book?
  • Would you rather write the best book of your career and never publish it or publish a bunch of books that leave you feeling unsatisfied?
  • Would you rather be with your favorite literary crush or your favorite television/movie crush?
  • Would you rather only be able to write books or only be able to read books?

I had a really hard time coming up with questions, so I found a lot of these on @HiddenintheStacks. Make sure to check out the post for over 100 great would you rather questions!

  1. That was tons of fun. I especially like the idea of fantasy characters coming to this world or the other way around -as long as it was safe. I wouldn’t last 5 minutes in some of the fantasy worlds, and that would have nothing to do with cell phones! Lol.

  2. I’m SO glad you decided to do the tag, it was a lot of fun for me! & I love your answers, some are really difficult to choose, but you did a great job 🥰 and I agree with several, especially that I would also read the first page, because I think that if you read only the last page, nothing would make much sense, right? 😅
I hope you have a beautiful day! ❤️
