Kayla’s Review
This plot is so twisted and confounding (in the best of ways) that I’m being stingy with details as I don’t want to spoil anything.
The story telling alternates between Josie and Izzy’s perspectives, and just when you think you know what’s going to happen another mystery slams the door in your face. Izzy is obsessed—she wants Grant and she wants to be Josie. Josie loves her family but Kong’s for freedom, and she fears that her husband’s “church” has become more of a cult. The plot is fast-paced, if you’re looking for a seriously twisted page-turner, this is it!
Fair warning: some of Grant’s “escapades” did catch me a bit off guard. It wasn’t particularly graphic, and now that I’ve read more of Britney King’s work it actually seems quite tame. I simply was not expecting it in a mystery like this one.
If you like novels such as Gone Girl or Girl on a Train, you’ll love The Social Affair.
