We are still in the middle of hosting our book launch for D. Wallace Peach‘s new novel, Liars and Thieves! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out our previous post about the novel or watch the trailer at the bottom of this post. We had a question for the author about how she presented the goblins seen throughout the novel, and she was kind enough to reach out to us with an answer.
Q & A:
Your goblins aren’t stereotypical goblins. How did that come about?
My muse decided that I should have goblins, elves, and changelings in this book. I groaned and fought it. At one point, I even made up different names for the races so I could avoid those stereotypes. But it just didn’t work, and I changed them back. What I did do was mess with the stereotypes. And that was really fun. I wasn’t stuck with “what’s been done before” and the characters were able to grow organically. Hopefully readers will find them fresh and interesting.
Our Thoughts:
Don’t you love it when an author changes up stereotypes to creating refreshingly new characters and worlds? We know we do, and it’s just one more reason to check out this amazing novel.
