Hmm . . . not convinced.

We might just have a different read on it. I think the analogy shows that people respond to things differently. One person may face a tragedy and grow “harder”, putting up walls to block out the world; another may face the same circumstances and grow “softer,” perhaps being more compassionate because they know what it’s like to need compassion. Neither person is wrong for their response, they’re just coping in their own way.
That’s what I feel is the meaning behind the quote, which is why I like it. ❤️🐝

I get that. Of course our whole experience of life colours everything we do and think – and react.

I see what you mean now, and I agree. I’ve always felt that life experience determines who we are more than just “good genes” or something.
