Finally Fall Book Tag

First of all, I’m so sorry that I’m just now getting around to this tag. It’s been nearly a month since Riddhi B. @WhisperingStories tagged me, and that’s pretty slacker on my part. If you don’t already follow Riddhi’s blog, you really should check it out. Not only does she write great book reviews, but she’s not afraid to tackle more difficult topics.

This is also my first seasonal tag, and I can’t wait to get started.  

  • In fall, the air is crisp and clear: Name a book with a vivid setting.

I just finished this one last night, and even though it’s not a fall setting, it is certainly a vivid setting. Regan, the protagonist, is spirited away to a fantasy world known as the Hooflands where she encounters unicorns, centaurs and all kinds of hoofed creatures. It’s such a beautiful setting.

  • Nature is beautiful…but also dying: Name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy topic like loss or grief.

This book definitely deals with loss, grief, and overcoming trauma. It’s a beautiful little ghost story, and though it is flawed, I highly recommend it to anyone who’s dealing with or who has dealt with trauma.

  • Fall is back to school season: Share a non-fiction book that taught you something new.

My ancestor might have been a serial killer… Just kidding! I already knew that before I read this now classic piece of nonfiction. This one is great for history buffs, but it also gives some insights into the mind of H. H. Holmes. It’s more than true crime, that’s for sure.

  • In order to keep warm, it’s good to spend some time with the people we love: Name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you’d like to be a part of.

Is it weird that The Jungle Book made me want to go out and find a nice wolf-family with a panther godfather to be a part of? Whelp, this is my choice.

  • The colorful leaves are piling up on the ground: show us a pile of fall colored spines!

This is the best I could do, and it’s a stack of awesome reads. Go ahead and start adding to your TBR. I’ll wait. (Side note: That’s my favorite cozy blanket. My Aunt made it for me, so it’s got some major sentimental value.)

  • Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside: Share a book wherein someone is telling a story.

El is a super snarky story-teller, but she definitely gets her point across.

  • The nights are getting darker: Share a dark, creepy read.

I’m going to share two because I can! Home Before Dark is the perfect modern haunted house story. Mexican Gothic has all the earmarks of a classic gothic story with some truly Lovecraftian twists along the way. Whichever you choose will not disappoint.

  • The days are getting colder: Name a short, heartwarming read that could warm up somebody’s cold and rainy day.

In case you haven’t heard, I’m not a huge YA literature fan, but I’m about halfway through this cute little love story right now. It gives me butterflies, it’s that cute.

  • Fall returns every year: Name an old favourite that you’d like to return to soon.

I really want to read this one with my children one day soon. It’s such a fun read, but you have to have some foundational fairy tale knowledge to really appreciate it.

  • Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: Share your favourite cozy reading “accessories”!

Please scroll back up and look at that super cozy blanket. Also, Becky quilts, so I quite often steal my husband’s homemade quilt and cozy up!
