The Cake Flavoured Book Tag

Hi everyone! I have a real soft-spot for all things sweet and tasty, so when I found this book tag by Erin @Reading on a Star, I knew I had to do it.

Whether you like cake or not, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this tag!

The Rules:

  • As mentioned before, I found this tag over on @Reading on a Star (Erin has an amazing blog and you definitely should check it out.)
  • I’m not sure who the original creator is.
  • Answer the prompts
  • Tag whoever you want!

The Questions:

CHOCOLATE — a dark book that you loved

I read Mexican Gothic over Halloween 2020, and it was even better than I’d anticipated. Honestly, I usually find hyped books to be pretty underwhelming, but this one was exactly what I needed to get into the spooky season.

Buy Mexican Gothic

VANILLA —  favourite light read

The Obsession was one of those books that surprised me. It was not what I expected, but I really enjoyed the read overall.

Buy The Obsession

RED VELVET — a book that gave you mixed emotions.

I have honestly never read a book that gave me so many mixed emotions. I wanted to love Addie LaRue as much as the rest of the internet, but I had trouble connecting with the main character. I respected her love of life, but I kept expecting her to learn her lesson about what is most important in life–you know, the relationships we build and the love we share. However, the Addie on the last page of the novel was not terribly different from the Addie on page one, in my opinion. Also, her toxic relationship with Luc was hard to ignore.

I actually really liked Henry, however, and found myself wishing that the novel had been written from his perspective instead. His character, despite being much younger than Addie, actually grew and changed in the story.

That said, this novel was one of the most beautifully written novels I’ve read (even though it was filled with truisms), and I enjoyed reading it.

You see my mixed emotions, yes?

Buy The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

CHEESECAKE — a book that you’d recommend to everyone

Daisy Jones and the Six is the book that I do recommend to everyone. It’s one of those books that, even if you aren’t an avid reader, you’ll enjoy it.

Buy Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel

COFFEE — a book that you started but never finished.

Honestly, this book deserves my love and attention. However, every time I try to read it, I get distracted by something I have to read.

Buy Wicked Fox

CARROT — a book with great writing

You didn’t think I’d complete a list without this one, did you?

Buy Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe: A Novel
