Our Favorite and Least Favorite Recent Covers

I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but we all do it. Every. Single. Person. Don’t deny it because you know there is at least one book on your shelf that you own just because the cover was pretty.

Here is that book on Kayla’s shelf:

It’s still one of her favorite covers. She should really read the book…

Recent covers we do not love

Now, we don’t like badmouthing books on this site, so we’ll keep the covers we hate to a minimum. We’ll start by making a general blanket statement: If we can tell it’s photoshopped or taken from from online public domain site, it’s probably not our cup of tea.

I know. This is an Oprah’s book club book! It’s probably brilliant. However, those colors hurt.

Kayla loved this book, and if you haven’t read it, you really should. However, she almost didn’t pick it up because the cover reveals nothing. This is a gothic novel, but the cover does not imply gothic lit. Give us something more, please.

Recent covers we can’t stop thinking about:

Look at the colors! Kayla loves a cover with color, and this is perfect.

This might be our favorite thriller cover ever. Perfect colors, layers of meaning, and a character we want to get to know.

Terri Parlato has written a sequel to her amazing debut, and we didn’t think we could be more excited. Then we saw the cover.
