First Lines Friday is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
First Lines:
“My name is Lila Macapagal and my life has become a rom-com cliché…NOt manu romantic comedies feature and Asian-American lead (or dead bodies, but more on that later), but all the hallmarks are there.”
Okay, so I’m betting money that you haven’t read this one yet because it is brand new, but give me your best guess.
Okay, okay. Slow down. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this one on the blog before. You just need to think back to those posts.
Oh, you didn’t read those posts. In that case, I’ll just go ahead and reveal the book:
- Genre: Cozy Mystery
- Buy Arsenic and Adobo (A Tita Rosie’s Kitchen Mystery)
Hahaha I love those first lines!!
