By Sarah Addison Allen
Do you ever audition books to determine what your next read will be? I did this time and the minute I started reading Other Birds I couldn’t put it down! I didn’t want to do anything but read it but my crazy busy life got in the way and then when I only had nine pages to go but I stopped. Why? Have you ever read a book that you didn’t want to end even though you wanted to know the ending? I wanted one more day of this wonderful book being part of my current life.
I love the misfit characters and how they found each other, loved each other, and created a beautiful community/home together.
A famous reclusive author, an award winning chef, a hippy henna artist, a young coming of age woman in search of her past (possibly meeting her soulmate) on a beautiful island with ghosts and quirky little birds, what more could you want?
Then I read the acknowledgements (do you do that?) and discovered that Sarah wrote this book during a difficult time in her life. She lost two of the most important people in her life within days of each other together. The writing is so poignant. I could feel her emotions as I read this wonderful book.
Other Birds gets 5+ Stars from me:)
