This is a meme created by Reading Marie, and I am so excited to participate! I first discovered it on Kristin Kraves Books, and you should really follow her blog if you don’t already.
It is so easy to join in and here are the rules:
Take your current read and compare it to what you are reading this exact time last year. Which one do you like better? What is different about the books? Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to?
This Year I am Reading:

I’ve just started this book. Literally started it yesterday, so I can tell you that it’s dark. The relationship between the main character Jax and her estranged (now deceased) sister Lexie has a pretty tight grip on me, but the mystery surrounding Lexie’s death is what is keeping me turning pages.
Last Year I was Reading:

I’ve already reviewed this novel here, and Becky and I are both pretty big fans of the series in general.
As for how it compares to The Drowning Kind, other than both novels having elements of mystery and strong female characters, they’re not terribly comparable. Bombshell has a light, humorous tone whereas Drowning has a foreboding atmosphere from the beginning.
I really enjoyed reading Lowcountry Bombshell, but I’m enjoying reading The Drowning Kind right now. I think it will be a completely different experience, but I would recommend both novels.
If you want a good mystery with a love story, humor, and strong female friendships, read Lowcountry Bombshell. If you want a mystery that will grab you from the start with dark undertones and an exploration of family dynamics, check out The Drowning Kind.
What were you reading this time last year?
