Kayla’s Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Want to Read Again

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is all about books I want to read again. I’ll be honest, I don’t set aside a lot of time for re-reading. However, I have two offspring who are obsessed with books even though neither of them are old enough to read, so I’m going to focus on books I want to read to my children.

1. The Harry Potter Series

Don’t call me basic, but I’m really looking forward to hopping into the Harry Potter universe again. Revisiting the Hogwarts years with my little ones will be epic, and have you seen the artwork in these illustrated Harry Potter books? It’s absolutely gorgeous. I’m making sure that Santa will pack this little gift under our tree for hours of reading fun.

2. The Chronicles of Narnia

I love C.S. Lewis, and I need him to help me raise my children. Therefore, we will definitely be reading this series at some point.

3. The Boxcar Children

Does anyone remember this series? The first book was the first chapter book I ever checked out from the local library. My grandmother took me, and we read most of the book together. I finished reading the book by myself, and I was super proud of myself. The books follow four siblings as they deal with their parents death. At some point in the series they started solving mysteries, too. Of course, the whole series has been updated, but I wish I could find the original books.

4. The Prydain Chronicles

I accidentally read this series in reverse when I was in school–that is, I started with the last book, The High King, and read the other books as they became available in my school library. I would love to read this series with my tiny tykes.

5. Vesper Holly Books

I read The Illyrian Adventure because they were written by the same author who wrote the Prydain Chronicles, and I absolutely loved it. The main character is basically a female version of Indiana Jones, and the perfect heroine for young girls to look up to.

6. Alice in Wonderland

Of course this one is on the list. I’ve already read it to my oldest child when she was a baby, so it’s probably time to revisit it with both children.

7. The Hobbit

My husband and my oldest child are finishing this book up now. I listen in sometimes, and I absolutely love it.

8. Treasure Island

I read this one with my oldest when she was about one year old, but now that we have another silly baby, I’m going to read it again no matter how much my pirate impersonation hurts my voice.

9. Odd and the Frost Giant

We have this one on audiobook, and we’ve listened to it a couple of times on road trips with the little ones. It’s short and so much fun.

10. The Jungle Book

This is another one I’ve already read to my oldest child, so it’s time to dust off my ancient copy and read it to the baby!

11. Howl’s Moving Castle

Did you really think I’d make a list without this one? Oh no. We will read Howl’s Moving Castle. I don’t care that this is supposed to be a top ten list. I have made it a top 11 list.
